Default Anyone else find that trailer comical?

I’m still laughing from that cinematic trailer. The visuals are definitely a feast for the eyes but the dialogue is horrendous. Every time I watch it, I start cracking up and I think if this thing debuts anywhere except Lifetime, Oh or Oxygen (TV for women) it will be met with the same laughter. Chicks just can’t play “tough guys”.

Maybe I’m being sexist here but it doesn’t make it any less right. The most powerful women are the ones that embrace their femininity, not those that are trying to be like men.

Whats-her-face starts off whining about her dad dying in the Guild Wars and how this somehow taught her the definition of peace!!? First off, the target audience of this thing has no idea who she is, much less her dead dad or even what the Guild Wars are except for the title of a game. She then moves into “I’m a tough guy” mode and gets tossed around like a rag doll. It’s interesting to note that the only reason she doesn’t get slaughtered is because the only guy in this thing saves her. (We’ll save the discussion about how hideous he looks for another time.)

Then she’s back to trying to be a dude talking smack because she pushed some fiend off a bridge. We all secretly know the next move that bone dragon made right after they cut away was to flick little-miss-sassy into the same pit her wuss of a dad probably died in. The best marketing move they could make with this thing would be to cut out the dialogue entirely. It might make it confusing but that’s better than the current mystery most people are left grappling with: “So is she a lesbian?”

Or instead of making a new thread all on your lonesome trying to act like a "tough guy" of words...read and discuss the video here. http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...ead.php?t=2264

Too bad, that thread is dead.

And yes I do feel that the speech she made was tacky, however not to the extent that you have mentoined.

And the elementalist looked like she had Toy Story face animations when she casted the meteors every were.

Other then that, it was fine.

I did read the discussion there and it didn't address my concern so a new thread was warranted. The first part addresses how to get the video to run, the next part deals with dual-wielding and it degenerates from there. This seems to be common as the same thing happened over at The Guild Hall thread.

You would be doing me a favor if you did not quote my entire post when you respond. Artificially long threads don't get much readership and there is a certain degree of redundancy since anyone could read what I said as it appears just above your response.

Actually, I think all the text (lore/dialogue) in the game is painful to read. I have given up reading the lore on the guild war home page, and the in-game descriptions of gods and monuments are awful.

I do love the game, but I wish they'd hire some good text writers. What they have now reads like fan-fic, and poorly written fan-fic at that.

The only saving grace is that most of it is either short, or can be ignored.

--

I don't really care about your gender comments. She suffer from the same problems as just about all female characters in the game industry, she is designed to appeal to boys just about the age of puberty, which means she has both some soft feminine boy fantasy qualities, and at the same time she must be one of the boys. She plays both sides of a power fantasy at the same time.

BTW: The reason that her fathers dead ment whe learned the meaning of peace, is that his sacrifice bought Ascalon a decade of peace, so she got a chance to experience peace first hand as a child. At least that part was obvious to me.

I'm very close to closing this thread. Don't let it degenerate any further.

There are some valid points here so I'm leaving it open, but please learn to post them without attacking other posters, being misogynistic, or just flat out rude and offensive.

If that's really what's bothering your little brain, you should find something better to do with your time than debate the sexuality of computer generated characters.

allow me to clarify my position. The comments regarding lore and story are fine, the degrading comments towards women is totally out of line. I am considering closing this thread and starting a new one or what. If I come back and this has degenerated any further it's gone.

the trailer was a great source of intertainment in my opinion.

before you start ripping it apart think about this

they dont have the monye that blizz does and yet they blew blizzs cg out of the water

dont hate on the chicks they are fine the way they are

i for one find the lore of this game great for starting from scratch. give it some time it will get much better, have some faith

Changing the subject: I thought the trailer was an action packed thrill ride that makes me want to play it over and over with the volume turned way up...it got my excitement going.

On a side note, it was definitely comical-esque. There is a syrupy tone to her voice that makes me cringe a little. When she's held up by that monster....her scream is horrendous. I also don't understand why the elementalist thwarts monsters with her staff while saying 'jah' instead of burning them to a crisp or something. Granted that takes a little more time to animate...but was she saving up for the meteor shower or something? Speaking of the meteor shower, I was waiting the whole time to see something like that....and did actually laugh at her reaction when she cast it. It was very cool to see though. The ranger was alright, I think he looks like Elrond from lotr.

Funny, yes, but this movie was definitely enjoyable.

Really, I didnt like the dialogue. Dont mind the women characters, but "The days of peace....are over" seems like its tryin to attract the younger crowd. Same for "I know not the name of this evil...but it shall know mine". Overall, it would of been far better if they dumped all the dialogue, and just used text. Also, it didnt really show off any of the games features. They should of learned a thing or 2 from WOW's cinematic trailer, which blew my mind. If it wasent for the two slo-mo scenes, it would be pretty horrible overall.

What? The CG in WOW cinematic trailer was far better. More crisp, more colorful, and just better looking overall. Not to mention WOW cinematic trailer is longer, and the music is SUPERB, it really fits the settting. The music in GW trailer was awful, it should of been more choral and dramatic.

Because you cant go wrong with text, . Possibly some narration at the beginning, explaining who the guy in white is. Names preferably, not "Father". By text I mean flashin to a black screen with, well, text on it. Like in the LoTR Return Of The King trailer where it says "The Journey Continues". Chances are you guys know what I mean, but im just clarifying.

Beyond the slow motion scenes, what does the trailer really have goin for it?

to tell you the truth i just find it all intertaining (as i said before). its just a great mini-movie to me, and i like it.

WOW Cinematic Trailer didnt have any dialogue, save for a small introduction at the beginning. I meant a small introduction, possibly about the world, or history, or just introducing you to the game. Then have the rest just be action, no speakin, no dialogue. Show off different enviroments, classes, variety!

I really got nothing against females either but I think the main-"hero" being a male in this trailer would've looked ways different, maybe even better, depends on the voice and text tho...

Neither boys nor girls are born with swords in their hands. Embracing or rejecting one's masculinity or femininity is independent of whether one chooses to become skilled with a sword.

I thought the movie totally rocked. Devona (the warrior girl) is hot and she stabs things. I don't understand how you can complain about this. Would you rather have a hideous hag creature dueling these beasts? People like attractive women.

And don't pull "The only guy in the movie saved her." How is that relevant? If you're trying to make a point about how the entire entertainment industry portrays women, you'll probably get people to agree with you, but the way you're going about it is offensive and rude.

She's certainly "dude talking smack" becuase she pushes someone off a ledge? It's a legitimate tactic for anyone, regardless of gender, to use.

Honestly, I'm just confused about the points you're trying to make, do you think she should be sewing while the men are out there fighting? I really can't stand sexism and your post is just full of it. Your last line is especially offensive. I think you should re-evaluate your view of gender roles in not only the real world, but video games too.

I'll toss in a bit of sarcasm just for good measure:
Yeah, you're totally right, women who are involved in melee combat can only be dykes, law of the universe and whatnot.

Along these lines that appear to be so acceptable, meaning sarcasm...

The best thing any one of us can do is make sure to alienate women from playing this game.

And in reality tough guys...

Make sure you send a link to this thread to Gaile Gray, the female rep from Arena.net.
